Health & safety
At Holcim Trading & Shipping, peace of mind is our priority. Health and safety are embedded into everything we do.
From daily shipments and facility operations to our actions within the local communities, we strive to deliver sustainable results with integrity.
Our goal is to conduct business with zero harm while looking after our employees, customers and partners.
Our commitment to zero harm
Health and safety is of utmost importance across seaborne trading activities. That is why we believe that if we are good at safety, we are good at business.
Our commitment to health and safety goes beyond preventing accidents: we aim to establish secure working conditions for everyone we interact with.
From site operators to senior managers, we recognize core competency in health and safety across our operations. Our global health and safety management system is designed to help us continuously improve our performance, while effectively mitigating and managing risk across our business.
We also emphasize open communication with all our partners and customers on health and safety concerns relevant to our shared business goals.
Together, we are mobilizing to achieve zero accidents and improve the safety systems and controls already in place.

Our approach to health and safety
We go beyond standard shipping practices to ensure the integrity, safety and reliability of the entire seaborne supply chain.
We take a proactive approach to risk management by screening our partners and conducting thorough security drills to address environmental and piracy risks.
Every vessel used in our operations is meticulously screened in accordance with our Corporate Shipping Policy. During this process, we evaluate its compliance history and owner’s profile, in addition to terminal and operational feedback provided by our chartering team.
Our comprehensive health and safety approach includes:
- Risk assessment and management to identify potential hazards on board ships or during port operations
- Training and education on safety procedures, emergency response and maritime best practices
- Physical and mental health assessments to prioritize the well-being of our employees
- Regulatory compliance checks to align with strict regulations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and local authorities
- Emergency preparedness drills covering fires, spills and onboard accidents to ensure quick response times when needed
